From above, the most populous city in the southern hemisphere of the world, São Paulo, looks like a Selva de Pedra, a concrete jungle. This project is a journey that began years ago, when I moved to Brazil and collects stories of those who live on the edge of this tropical megalopolis. In these years I have explored corners of the city far from the tourist routes; I have met numerous families crammed in barracks in the suburbs favelas; I have followed commuters from one side of the city to another; I have found urban indigenous fighting for a handful of land; I met the inhabitants of a neighborhood wherewhere crack is sold and consumed in the open air. Selva de pedra is a book that presents a very personal, raw and real reading of the city of São Paulo and Brazil today.
